Promoted by the Mid Devon Cycling Club and incorporating the George Drewell Memorial for the most Combatative rider, the event is on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May, 2011.
From the race programme… The 2011 promotion is the 39th edition of this stage race promoted by the club. The race origins go back to 1973 when the Mid-Devon Road Club first promoted a two-day event to mark the twinning of Totnes and Vire in Normandy. It has had many formats over the years and this year sees yet another revision. The club is disappointed that after competing in 2010, the riders from the Velo Club du Bocage will not be present this year. Hopefully they will be back for the 40th Anniversary race.
The Mid-Devon Cycling Club is honoured to be able to incorporate the George Drewell Memorial into the promotion. This is at the invitation of George’s nephew Simon Breakwell. In his racing career George was a well-respected rider who regularly competed against the Mid-Devon’s Club President Colin Lewis. The most Combatitive rider in the view of the race jury will receive the George Drewell Memorial Trophy to be held for 12 months.
The Saturday racing is centered on Spreyton. The race opens with an 8 km time trial over an undulating road followed by a road race over 4 laps of a 25 km circuit. On Sunday the racing moves to a combination of the Aylesbeare and Rockbeare Hill Circuits. It may well be the final time that these circuits are used as traffic lights at Clyst Honiton and other changes on he Old A30 will make it impossible to race over these roads. The Mid-Devon Cycling Club/Colin Lewis Cycles wish all competitors and race officials a safe and trouble free weekend.
