Developing the academy…… hot news, some months ago it was muted that a Team Cornwall be developed amongst senior Cornish riders, pulling from different clubs to compete in road races and criteriums under the same banner.
Elite, first and second category riders in the south west and in Cornwall in particular have suffered from a lack of numbers and this has held them back in bigger races.
The basis of all cycle racing and training is numbers , this increases speed ,strength ,skill and a sense of team .
A plan was muted to have a team cornwall….however
Newquay Velo felt that they would not sign up for this ,and could not allow their first and second cat riders to be part of this development . When presented to OneandAll ,by Darren Manser, the over whelming response was to create Team Cornwall from our existing base as this would be the best route for sustainability of cycling.
The academy has Duncan,Ricky,James and Jake currently riding at senior level, adding Richard Edmund and Stuart Pickering (who has just joined)along with Darren Manser strengthens this base and gives the younger riders a focal point and a wider base for a team.
Stan has been getting more points to join this group of riders so we must plan for the end of this season, the winter and next year.
Missing from this in terms of progression was a first category rider, fortunately Junior Hefferman has joined OneandAll in the last seven days ,he adds a new dimension to the academy.
He has already visited the academy and started to mentor our young riders .Our Patron Steve Lampier has extended an offer to look after Junior ,this is a great mind set and means we are producing the base for a great team.
Add to this defined training runs, with both Chris Opie and Yanto Barker joining in,group sessions and travelling away together brings together many riders with one aim progression.
Sitting in the wings we have several third category riders wanting their second category licence can only mean better cycling.
