I am not a nutrition expert so it was in interesting challenge when I was asked to provide feedback for CNP regarding their Pro Peptide protein replacement supplement. I am a 38 year old first category racing cyclist, I weigh in at 78kg (a bit heavy I know) more on that later. I have been using Pro Peptide for eight weeks now following exactly the instructions on the tub.
Pro-Peptide is an advanced blend of bioactive fast and slow proteins (Whey protein high fraction concentrate, Hydrolysed whey, Egg white and micellar casein) that provide both anabolic and anticatabolic properties, meaning less wasted protein and better protein utilisation. Also included are probiotic organisms (friendly bacteria), which assist in protein metabolism leading to improved nitrogen retention (the perfect environment for muscle growth) and maintaining a healthier digestive system. A high concentration of peptide-bonded glutamine ensures a superior absorption of this vital amino acid. Pro-Peptide is low in fat and lactose allowing further ease of digestion, is the most advanced protein supplement on the market today and is ideal for the health conscious individual to the serious athlete.
For example take someone weighing 200lbs: Their protein intake would need to be 300g. When you consider that a typical chicken breast or tin of tuna delivers approx 30 grams of protein, that would mean ’10′ chicken breasts or ’10′ tins of tuna a day. Also in today’s fast track life style, many people turn to poor nutritional fast foods or even miss a meal. For these reasons the introduction of protein supplementation into many diets, from the health conscious individual to the serious athlete has now become a normal but important feature. Pro-Peptide is a perfect answer to this problem; also see Pro MR and Pro MS.
So that’s the blurb on the CNP website, but how did I find taking it? I had the 2270g tub pretty large, CNP sell mixers with convenient mixing levels on the side. Pro Peptide requires three scoops (scoop provided in the tub) mixed with 450 mls of water. Ensure you put the water in first makes the measurement a lot more accurate. Once you have the two ingredients together get mixing but make sure the mixer lid is on securely first! The product mixes together very quickly, with no residue or lumps and makes a very tasty chocolate drink. It is enough to quench your thirst, without making you feel bloated or lethargic after drinking. The recommended dose is two drinks a day and took mine in the morning and the evening just before bed. Unlike other recovery drinks I have not suffered with flatulence or constipation whilst taking this product.
Earlier I talked about my weight and the fact that I was racing on the heavy side. This winter I decided to get down to my recommended racing weight. I began by looking at my diet leading to me cutting out the obvious things such as alcohol, high carb foodstuffs such as white bread and avoiding snacking. This left me feeling pretty hungry so the Pro Peptide acted as a perfect filler, low in calories but enough to make me feel full until lunchtime and not overly hungry in the morning. I am now weighing in at 74kg so that’s around 6kg of weight lost… Ok I can’t put it all down to Pro –Peptide but it definitely helped me to lose fat without losing lean muscle mass.

Not sure how you calculated the daily protein requirements. The nutritional advice I’ve heard, and is easy to remember, for endurance athletes 1.5g per kg of body weight per day. So your 200lb (90kg) cyclist would require 135grams per day not 300g
