Yanto Barker takes an excellent win for Pendragon Le col in the totnes Two day stage race. This race has taken a step up this year with two of the top British racing teams entered. More later... Day 1 Stage 1 TT This stage had to be moved at the last minute becuase of roadworks and was extended by one mile making it 4.6 miles. A tough stage with a long uphill finish. Day 1 Stage2 A very controlled race but the Guernsey rider had an easy day with Pendragon and Willer negating every move leaving .... to watch the action with a smile on his face.
Day 2 Stage 3 A very lumpy stage with four loops of the tom Hawkins circuit with its long steep climb and fals flat. Chris Opie and Will Bjerfelgt getting away very early. Yanto Barker managed to finally break the elastic in a chasing group taking the stage win and overall GC |

Dear Member British Cycling has announced challenging targets to increase its membership from 30,000 to 120,000, with the London Olympics in 2012 providing the inspiration to participation. This growth will flow through to local cycling clubs providing them with the enviable opportunity to cater for an increased membership. Already this year events in the South West racing calendar have experienced a growth in participation. With the three Springtime pursuits, Pittards Trophy, Ham Hill and the Tom Hawkins road races all achieving full fields of eighty riders and a list of reserves. The first round of the regional youth series experienced unprecedented demand with fifty six competitors under the age of sixteen. The region will attract local and National media exposure when the South West hosts two stages of the Tour of Britain, the Tour of Britain sportive and the Exeter round of the Tour Series criteriums. Contributing to an increased interest in cycle sport. In an effort to cater for this demand events have sprung up across the region with criteriums in Exeter, Barnstaple, Seaton, Ilfracombe, Plymouth city centre,an expanded series at Portreath in Cornwall and a road race series at Brentor Tavistock The South West regional Road Race workgroup are working hard to capitalise on this momentum, ensuring that increased events are mirrored by a growth in volunteer officials. I am now writing to you regarding the opportunity to train you and your club memberhip as the regions future event organisers and commissaries. By participating in these one day training sessions you will be laying the foundations to cater for the demand that now exists in the South West. You do not have to be a seasoned road racer to volunteer and your commitment can be limited to two weekends a year. Training courses can be organised where there is demand and there are no costs involved to participate. Please debate this topic at your next club committee meeting, Sunday ride, or invite me along to lead the discussion. I will be contacting your club within the month to discuss how your club can contribute to an improved South West calendar. Or send me an email and find out about the opportunities that exist. To have a look at some of the work that has already been carried out with South West clubs and the support that your Regional team and workgroup can offer you visit these links. http://new.britishcycling.org.uk/clubs/article/roa20100316-Teamwork-in-The-South-West-0 http://new.britishcycling.org.uk/sport/article/bc20100331-Feature--Road-Commissairing-in-the-South-West-0 Andy Parker South West Regional Events Officer British Cycling |

Hyperthermia Heat gain/loss from your surroundings is dependent on the ambient temperature. As problems during exercise are usually related to shedding excess heat produced, let's focus on the ways your body can eliminate excess heat energy to maintain a temperature in a normal range. Our boys Team ProBikeKit.com showed with three riders today, myself, John Nye and Chris Lobb. The turnout was 14 riders, - Gary Chambers looking strong, good to see Andy Parker riding from Mid Devon and a couple of Revo Racing riders - Pete Howath and Adam Bright. The weather was overcast with a cool breeze. This was my first ride at Portreath, so I was pretty careful to note the course details on the warm-up lap - it's an old airfield circuit and it's pretty rubbly! But if you can avoid the potholes it's got a couple of tight bends after the runway section and then a nice windy hill section to the finish. As we lined up on the start line I noticed I had a rear flat with scant seconds till the start! Stupidly I didn't bring a spare wheel-set and so as everyone did an extra warm-up lap I ran to the car-park and was lucky enough to find Ian Fensome from the Exeter Wheelers willing to lend me his Trek to ride! My bikes Campy 11 - so the chances of getting a wheel were ... zero! No time to make adjustments - just get on and ride! Thanks Ian you're a life saver! All eyes were on Gary from the go really - no surprises when on the 3rd lap he made his move straight after the hill on the runway section. Chris Lobb got straight in the action and went up the road with him. Gary and Chris rode a steady fast pace keeping at least 45 seconds up on the bunch for the whole race. The rest of the bunch stuck together with no real chase getting organised. Then down to the last two laps, I wound up on the front up the hill on the penultimate lap. The pace dropped right off as the finishing sprint was contemplated by all. I sat on the front and took a nice line into the final bend - looked back to watch it all kick off and sprinted my way to finish just behind Adam Bright netting 4th place. Gary took the win out-sprinting Lobber with Pete Howath - 5th and John Nye - 6th. A 2-4-6 for PBK - good days outing! I'm liking this Cornish racing. See more photos here |

Cyfac Absolu review Frame 56cm Full Carbon, alloy dropouts, replaceable dérailleur hanger.
The Absolu is a real work of art - hand built in France to rider specification it's a really special machine. As I don't have much experience of custom frame geometry, I took a stock 56cm rather than a custom spec version, as its geometry matched my old Cannondale six13 precisely. Since I was so happy with the Dale last year, I decided to try and get the same fit for my Cyfac. |

Vuelta '10 St. 9: Glory For The Little Guy
Message by Edmond Hood Race Report: Aggressive and opportunistic Caisse d’Epargne domestique David Lopez was the man who grabbed the stage win glory at the top of the punishing drag into Alcoi at the end of another long hot day in the saddle with Euskaltel’s Igor Anton doggedly hanging on to the leader’s jersey despite Joaquin Rodriguez trying to wrest that single – but vital – second from him in the finale.

Vuelta De Pez ’10: Moncoutie & Mountains!
Message by Alastair Hamilton Roadside Pez St. 8: Everyone said that the real La Vuelta started today and they were not wrong. Three climbs close together near the end would sort a few things out, but it was an early break that made the news with Mountain Man Moncoutie leading the charge.
