With over 100 riders pre-entered……the rain came, the fog was patchy, and the wind blew….that was even before over 60 of the toughest riders decided to battle the elements and take on the Coastal Cruise.

The event HQ was Dartmoor Zoological Park, where the riders signed on under the watchful eyes of the meerkats!
Big Peaks from Ashburton brought along a selection of bikes and accessories, and new helmet provider http://c-originals-sports.com/were on hand to show you what’s new to the market. (all riders can now return to the zoo within the next 4 weeks, using your bike numbers to get 25% of entrance fee).

The riders started off at 0830-0930 to take on the 80 miles of challenging hills and coastal roads. The course took the riders from Sparkwell, though Meavy and up on first feed station at Princetown where riders were able to refuel thanks to www.cnpprofessional.co.uk sports nutrition (use RUTT40 for 40% of product range)

After Princetown the riders were taken along to Dartmeet, Buckfastleigh, Totnes, before visiting our main feed station at Strete Village Hall.
From here riders completed the loop back though Kingsbridge, Modbury, Yealmpton and back to the zoo. All riders were welcomed back with goodie bags and a medal.
This sportive couldn’t have happened without the great support and team work provided by:
*RUTrainingToday CC (marshals & Feed stations, broom wagon)
*NEG rider Graham
*Alex from Mount Batten Centre – Social Event Saturday
*Dartmoor Zoo
*The riders for turning up despite the bad weather

Thank you for battling the weather and joining us in making it such a great event, and supporting a local Zoo.
Very nearly didn’t turn up today but I am pleased that I did. Great event with all four seasons in one day. Many thanks to the organisers
Great event and local for a change, very well run with a tough route and testing weather conditions…… Well Done! ( anyone got a magic cure for cramp)
Just wanted to also pass on my thanks to the James and the rest of his team for putting on a great event. It was brutal but well worth it. Everyone I spoke to was very upbeat despite the rough weather. Well done and see you next year .
Hard work 2day but very good hopefully it will become a reg event and grow Great course Well done
Thanks for putting on such a well organized event and I am so pleased to say I battled through to finish such a phsyically demanding route, this was my first sportive and a great one to have under my belt. Lands End 100 this Sunday coming will feel like riding in East Anglia after the coastal cruise!
After all these comments we need a new name cause it is no cruise…
Very well planned and organised event. A challenging route with interesting weather conditions. Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday – feeling it now. Thanks guys!
it does need a new name, perhaps ‘coastal knee crusher’. or ‘coastal killer’. my first ever sportive and it was great fun and seriously challenging. definately deserved my pint or 3 afterwards
Just another positive comment on a great event. Upbeat riders made the marshalling a breeze ( no pun intended ).
Spence if your reading this a speedy recovery and hope your back on your bike soon ….see you next year?
Still recovering from what was a truly memorable sportive! Many, many thanks to my cycling pals Simon and Paul for keeping me going. Can’t quite believe I actually completed it.
Thank you RU and Primal for a great event and no, its certainly isnt a ‘cruise’!!
that was by far the toughest sportive I have done – that hill out of dartmeet!?! thanks to the broom wagon driver for letting me finish and for encouraging me too do so. I could so easily of packed it in 2 miles out but so glad I didnt. cheers. thanks to all involved, great day!
Great event. First time over 60 miles for me. Quite tough but still enjoyable. Seems like Sparkwell had the bad weather as it did pick up and it was jackets off time !
Great not to have to travel too far as well. Did clash with a BIG charity ride though which might have taken a few riders away. Please do again nxt year if you can. Thanks again.
Hi guys thanks for all of your positive comments. If you could repeat these on the Primalwear facebook page it would be very much appreciated.
What’s happening with the photos from the event? Are you making a gallery?
