For the second year the team are supplied by CNP nutrition. As a ‘first year’ in the team I have been dead chuffed to get my hands on some of the fantastic products….
I have never really enjoyed recovery drink, well barely been able to keep it down would be more accurate, but the CNP professional pro-recover (chocolate) tastes better than any product I’ve tried before. I drink it after all hard training sessions and feel it really helps with recovery, especially if racing more than once in a day.
The bars and gels are equally good. We have been supplied with four products. The two gels come in a caffeinated and non-caffeinated variety. Being a coffee addict I prefer the caffeinated ones, especially on race day, but guess they are best left till the end of the race – as a pick-me-up for the finale. I find the energy bars are good for longer training rides races as they are slightly slower release fuel than the gels and so stay around a little longer. I like the cranberry ones the best but they all taste great. I use the CNP pro flapjack bars as an alternative to recovery drink, they are also pretty filling making them a good alternative to a sweeter snack during the day if you are trying to avoid sugary food.
I have been using the isotonic energy drink and it passes the main test for me – which is that I find it very easy to drink. I tended to find during my triathlon days that although the exact composition of energy/isotonic drinks is important, for me the bigger factor was how easy they were to drink when on the rivet mid race, and the CNP passes this test with flying colours.
CNP complete their range of supplements with a pro peptide. I have not been using this yet – partly as I find the high protein flapjacks and recovery drink so good, but if it tastes as good as the other products it is well worth having a try…..
It has been really helpful to train and race with the same nutrition, making fueling in races much easier. As a team we are really fortunate to be using the same stuff that both GB cycling and SKY are using, and if it is good enough for them, it is certainly good enough for me……Fingers crossed the results will follow!
