South West Youth & Junior Development Group
Calling all riders aged 12 yrs and over who are currently racing or enjoying learning race skills in club sessions
MDCC, EMBC & Fully Sussed are running a ‘Super Session’ for all 12 to 18 yr olds at South Dartmoor College, Ashburton. For those who are wondering what a Super Session’ is, well, it’s as the name suggests, a coaching session of super magnitude! Any South West rider in any club is welcome, just imagine your club session but with heaps more riders from as far afield as Cornwall, N. Devon or even Somerset! Not only will you get to be with likeminded riders from across the SW but will be coached by Regional coaches too, how awesome is that?!
The session will be Cyclo-cross & MTB XC focused but if you attend, you’ll soon learn that these skills are transferrable to whatever type of bike or discipline you currently like.
It will be 3hrs of learning, racing and most importantly, FUN!

Please note that the South of England cyclo cross champs will take place in Bristol on the same day, if applicable please encourage your riders to participate in this event, there will be more super sessions to follow.

I would agree with Andy that there are transferrable skills to whatever discipline. For the younger athlete it is also advisable to keep your options open and not to specialise too early. A track session at Newport would also be a good idea.
I will be helping out on Sunday and can give a lift if needed.

Good session on Sunday with individual sessions on mount/dismount, cornering and race starts. Although off-road, there were lots of skills that would be useful to a road based rider including race starts, riding in a bunch, gear selection, cornering, cornering in a group, maintaining position in bunch, etc. This was followed by a short race.
The regional talent development coach was also in attendance. A good opportunity to get noticed, check out the opposition and gauge individual strengths/weaknesses.
