Having mover to Primal this season one of the most exciting things has been getting my hands on all the really nice kit that James and Judith have secured from the various team sponsors. The arrival of our batch of C-Originals SV888 helmets was a real bonus before our first races started…..
We met the company owner at the Evesham vale road race and it was really nice to get the chance to say thank you to him. It is a new company aspiring to carve a niche in the UK and Euro market. The factory in China makes Helmets for a lot of top name brands and they have now used all that expertise to produce their own range.
First off the SV 888 helmet looks great, the white with red and black details match the team kit perfectly. There are some carbon-look panels which add a nice touch. If you spend top dollar on a main brand helmet you invariably get so token pieces of carbon but i am never sure of how effective they are, and i am perfectly happy to wear a helmet that isn’t part carbon….
I have always been “between sizes” with helmets. Especially when the choice is either small/med or med/large. Slightly irrationally i have always gone for small/med on the basis that i might save some weight and be more aero. I know realise that this is pointless as i have suffered with never being able to get a cycling cap or winter hat under the helmet, and i always feel the cold. So on this basis i went for the med/large and it fits great. Any doubts and i would always go a touch larger to allow the wearing of a euro cap…..
The helmet is really light (lighter than my previous atmos and bell volt) it is more comfortable than my previous helmet( i think this may in part reflect finally getting the right sized helmet!). The simple chin strap and rear lock both work absolutely fine, and given the price of this helmet is about half of its competitors i would say it is a real winner and definitely worth considering before forking out for more expensive models….as with all kit it is always better trying before you buy so i would recommend having a try of any helmet before you part with any cash…..
